Hike Food Tips

Writer: Kelly JohnsonKelly Johnson

Using Sphiker.

Here are some tips for packing food for a hike:

  • Food to bring

Good options include trail mix, nuts, seeds, nut butters, fresh fruit, dried or freeze-dried fruit and vegetables, energy bars, granola, and ready-made tuna salad.  (Sphiker provides dried fruits, and fruit barks.)

  • How much to bring

For longer hikes, plan to pack about 700 grams to 1 kilogram of food per person per day that includes the water required to cook.

  • How to eat

Snack regularly every one to two hours instead of eating three large meals.

  • How to pack

Our packages are lightweight, leak-proof Ziplock bags that keep food fresh.

  • What to cook

Our mealsmean you simply just-add-water and cook but you can add chicken, tuna, tofu and salmon packets for higher protien.

  • Breakfast

Our granolas already have coconut milk powder added. You can add peanut butter powder, dried fruit, nuts, and seeds to bulk them out.

  • Sharing

Share as much food as possible with your hiking partner.
